Rendezvous Lands Conservancy Seeks Executive Director


Organization Profile:
Rendezvous Lands Conservancy, Inc. (RLC) is a non-profit organization committed to conserving, owning, managing, and maintaining property for the use of the public in the Intermountain West. RLC was jointly created through a partnership by the Jackson Hole Land Trust and The LOR Foundation in 2011 and is based in Jackson, Wyoming. Its inaugural project is underway, to protect, administer, design, construct, manage, and maintain a 40-acre natural park for the use and enjoyment of Teton County, Wyoming residents and visitors, called Rendezvous Park (R Park).

Our vision for RLC is shaped by a feasibility study, which found that most conservation organizations in the West typically do not hold the fee title to parcels for any period of time. Many acquire conservation easements and some purchase property with the express intention of transferring it to a public agency. With the decline in public funds at all levels, resources are increasingly scarce to support this business model. At the same time, many rural communities lack public access to open space because they do not have the public agency infrastructure or local financial resources to acquire and manage those lands. Without such resources, communities may also lack the vision of what they could accomplish to provide public access amenities.

RLC aspires to fill this regional need for an organization that is willing to own property and to support community conservation projects. As a new organization, this is a unique time to shape RLC’s future, along with the founding board members who are exceptionally engaged.

Position Overview:
RLC seeks an Executive Director (ED) to help develop and implement the vision of the organization and to create and execute strategic goals and objectives to achieve that vision. Working in partnership with the founding board of directors and staff, the ideal candidate will develop the strategic direction of the organization, including specific conservation opportunities to provide the benefit of public access to protected land. Responsibilities also include leading staff in managing all programmatic and fundraising activities. This is an exciting opportunity for an individual experienced in land conservation, acquisition and/or land management, and community engagement to lead this new organization into its next chapter of growth.

Duties & Responsibilities:
-Leadership, Vision, and Strategy
-Develop and execute strategic plans and priorities to accomplish RLC’s vision
-Identify opportunities for RLC to have the greatest impact and determine the path towards execution

-Communications, partnerships, and fundraising
-Articulate RLC’s vision, mission, and strategic priorities to inspire current and potential stakeholders and partners
-Support, leverage, and grow RLC’s collaborations with public agencies, local communities, and private sector partners
-Lead high-level $5MM fundraising campaign through personal efforts to secure six-figure gifts, as well as through staff and volunteer management

-Board Management
-Work closely and effectively with the board of directors, keeping them well-informed and involving them appropriately in strategy, fundraising, and fiduciary oversight
-Grow RLC’s board of directors into a regional, active group that leverages and secures resources on behalf of RLC

-Management and Operations
-Ensure the proper management of RLC fiscally, operationally, and administratively, while leading and empowering the organization’s staff and volunteers

– Seven or more years of substantive work experience in the field of land conservation, and/or parks and open space management and community engagement
– Possess strong written and verbal communication skills
– Ability to interact and influence at the most senior levels of an organization and to work collaboratively toward shared objectives
– Strong strategic thinking and analytical skills
– Ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously and take initiative
– Highly competent and detail-oriented in executing tasks
– Demonstrate resourcefulness and flexibility, with the ability to anticipate and act on opportunities quickly
– Willingness to be located in the Jackson, Wyoming area is preferred
